Book to Movie News! Veronica Roth’s ALLEGIANT

It’s been blowing up my News Feed, readers!

It appears we’re not getting a big-screen adaptation of Veronica Roth’s final Divergent book, Allegiant.

And the news gets worse before it gets better.

Bad… Shailene Woodley, Ansel Englort, and Four Theo James are not going to be starring in it (probably).

But, there’s good news…I guess?

200_s2

They want to make it a TV series, titled Ascendant.  (That’s right, they’re changing the name…completely.)

So what do you guys think?  Good idea?  Bad idea?

Personally, I think they just don’t want to kill of Tris in the end of the fourth movie.

Let’s just say, I’m glad Veronica Roth has continued on with her life and is putting out new books.

DIVERGENT Movie News!

While I should be working…Instead, I’m going to bring you a look at Theo James as Four!

DIVERGENT

Attention all you Four fans: here’s an exclusive reveal of Theo James as Tobias “Four” Eaton, the mysterious–and rather dreamy–Dauntless leader that takes a special interest in Beatrice Prior (Shailene Woodley).

For those of you who haven’t read the Veronica Roth books, Divergent takes place in a dystopian future where all of society is divided into five factions: Amity (peaceful), Abnegation (selfless); Candor (honest, Erudite (intelligent); a nd Dauntless (brave). Our heroine, sixteen-year-old Tris, chooses the Dauntless faction.

EW caught up with Theo James while he was on a break from shooting Divergent in Chicago where the production will continue until mid-July.  ”Is this the picture where I have a t-shirt on and no pants? I was really hoping they’d use that one,” James jokes, before explaining that this picture (note: he is wearing pants) captures a moment from early in the film when Four is showing the Dauntless initiates around their new headquarters. “I’ve introduced them to this world and they’re still in the beginning stages of training,” he says. “At this stage you don’t really know what Four is all about.”

James got a taste for leadership when much of the cast participated in a kind of boot camp before filming. James was even given the opportunity to take charge of the Dauntless training, leading the 50 or so actors that make up the core group of background Dauntless characters. “They didn’t know he was playing Four, they thought he was our stunt coordinator,” says director Neil Burger, with a laugh. “He put them through it.”

Says James, “I know it sounds ridiculous but it was really quite useful: it helped set a tone for those scenes, being able to live the character a bit.  At one point, Shailene was laughing and I got real serious with her and said”—the actor lowers his voice to a menacing whisper—”Don’t. Laugh.”  He laughs. “Shai was like, ‘um, are you joking right now?’”

EW’s Exclusive FIRST LOOK at Divergent

DIVERGENT

Divergent, the highly anticipated adaptation of the first book in Veronica Roth’s best-selling YA series, only recently began filming on location in Chicago. But Shailene Woodley, who stars as heroine Beatrice “Tris” Prior, tells EW that the younger members of the Neil Burger-directed movie — which includes Ashley Judd, Kate Winslet, Theo James and Zoë Kravitz — have already clicked. “It’s a good group,” she says. “We’re hanging out on weekends, celebrating birthdays. Everyone just wants to get to know one another. It’s rare to get a big group together and not have any conflicts. It’s really kind of amazing.”

Divergent takes place in a dystopian future where society is divided up into five factions. In this exclusive photograph, Tris is taking the place of a fellow Dauntless initiate, and must stand still while knives are thrown at her head. “It’s about being selfless and standing up for what’s right,” Woodley says.

But don’t worry about those knives: “They’re just rubber,” she says.

Divergent 3 finally has a title!!

After much waiting and anticipation, fans of Veronica Roth’s Divergent series finally know the name of the third and last book in the trilogy!

Allegiant

ALLEGIANT will be in book stores on October 22, 2013. Here’s a brief summary from Goodreads:

What if your whole world was a lie?
What if a single revelation—like a single choice—changed everything?
What if love and loyalty made you do things you never expected?

The explosive conclusion to Veronica Roth’s #1 New York Times bestselling Divergent trilogy reveals the secrets of the dystopian world that has captivated millions of readers in Divergent and Insurgent.

Not much else has been released about the overall story of the third novel, but it’s sure to be as fast paced, suspenseful, and gripping as the previous books in the series. We’re still eagerly awaiting cover art, too. Some fans are speculating online that the symbol for Abnegation or Erudite will be featured on the final book’s cover.

Raise your hand if you’re excited!!

Casting Divergent, take two: Casting Four (aka: A Lineup of Hotties)

UPDATE (3/8/13): Check out AtLP’s updated post with YOUR suggestions and new additions to the “lineup” from Young Adult Magazine!

Ahh, Four. My fictional boyfriend. Remember, I called dibs on him already.

Let’s sum up what we’re looking for… Four needs to smolder on the screen. We need a smokin’ hot hardass with a bit of a tender, sensitive side. For example, an actor like Jensen Ackles would be PERFECT for such a role. He’s a phenomenal actor and I love him like butter on bread, but, as much as I love him, unfortunately he’s a bit too old to play this character.

And for those of you who are wondering… yes, I spent the past week looking at pictures of mostly shirtless hot guys. It’s a tough job, but someone’s gotta do it.

Some casting thoughts for this role include:

Steven R. McQueen
If he doesn’t make you swoon, you are not a woman. Just sayin. Known for the role of Elena’s little bro in Vampire Diaries, McQueen has grown into quite a fine looking young man the last few seasons. We’ve seen him be soft and sensitive with his big sis and the girls he’s diggin’, but we’ve also seen him kick some vampire ass, too. Of the actors here, he’s probably my favorite choice for Four. My little-girl-crush on him has absolutely nothing to do with it, of course…

Henry Cavill
Though he may be a slightly to old for the part of Four (but only in the same way that 25-year-old Robert Pattinson is/was too old to play an immortal high schooler), his role in The Tudors just oozes sexuality, and going to war for Zeus in Immortals certainly brings out the tough guy in him. He gets a vote from me!

Nick Hoult
I read on another fan’s blog (so help me if I can remember which one) that Hoult would be fitting for the role. I will not lie… I had no idea who this kid was and had to IMDB his whole history to find out if he was in anything I’d actually seen. Turns out he was the little kid in About A Boy! And he’s got quite an impressive resume. On a strictly physical level, he personally doesn’t do it for me. That’s not to say he’s not a good actor, and I also don’t think he’s unattractive, but he just doesn’t scream “I’M SO SEXY THAT MY MERE PRESENCE WILL MAKE YOUR PANTIES CATCH FIRE” (like Four does). But maybe that’s just me.

Aaron Johnson
Mr. Kick-Ass himself.  He co-starred with Chloe Grace Moretz (one of my choices for Tris in Part I of my casting experiment), so we already know they have some (non-romantic) on screen chemistry with each other. Also, the fact that he was the title character in Kick-Ass also tell us that he, of course, has some kick-ass abilities. The young actor was also able to play a young John Lennon in 2009’s Nowhere Boy, (which I unfortunately have not seen), but I have a feeling that for a role like that they weren’t going to choose someone who couldn’t hack it.

HONORABLE MENTION:

Alex Pettyfer
Duh.

I know, I know, I know… he’s a prime choice to play every lead in every movie based on a young adult book. But let’s face it: homeboy be smokin’ hot. Pettyfer is the right age and build to play the part, however we’d need to get him some hair dye. Even though it was never mentioned in Divergent, Four’s hair is dark brown (as per a Q&A with Roth). But maybe I’m still bitter that he is positively perfect to play Jace Wayland for the Mortal Instruments movie (am I the only one that feels Cassandra Clare must’ve written that character with Pettyfer in mind?!) and they went with JCB instead.

If you haven’t already, check out Casting Divergent, Part I and check out the Tris picks. Then lay it on me… yell, scream, agree, disagree, and defend your favorite boy!
