Julena? Selustin? Justelena??

As per PopEater.com:

It’s official, Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez are in love. At least according to an eyewitness who reportedly saw the teen lovers dropping the big “L” bomb on each other repeatedly during a shopping spree in New York City Tuesday evening.

My first thought? Dear God, I hope that doesn’t mean he’s being considered to play Clay in 13 Reasons Why.  Oh, the horror……

She’s playing WHO?! YA book-to-movie casting news

Since Hollywood has no creative imagination left, there are more books being made into movies than I can count. In a previous post, I mentioned a lot of young adult books that studios want to put on the big screen. Many are rumors, some have started casting, and a handful are already in production. Here’s a preview of what we’ve got to look forward to…

Mortal Instruments (2012)

After numerous postings in the blogosphere and other online entertainment sources, most of us already know that Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower are taking the lead roles of Clary Fray and Jace Wayland. Simon Black, however, is still a great big question mark. Earlier reports of Xavier Samuel taking the role have disintegrated, and we’re still left Simon-less. WHY MUST YOU TOY WITH ME, HOLLYWOOD?

Fallen (2012)

Lauren Kate’s Fallen heroine will be played by Lucy Hale (most recently best known as Aria in Pretty Little Liars). Honestly, I can’t think of a better actress to play Lucinda Price. As soon as I heard she took the role, it all clicked. Based on her PLL performance, she can play a naive teenager falling hopelessly in love VERY well, and the physical description is a spot on match. Even the chick on the cover of the book resembles Hale. The all-powerful movie execs finally got one right.

Heist Society (2012)

Drew Barrymore will be directing this adaptation of Ally Carter’s novel about an art heist, and I think that is AWESOME. No word yet on who will play Kat and if Hale isn’t hot as hell, I will storm the studio with torches and pitchforks. WHO’S WITH ME?!

Maximum Ride (2013)

Catherine Hardwicke, director of Twilight and Red Riding Hood, is taking on James Patterson’s series about a group of kids with bird DNA as a result of a government genetics experiment. Once again, no casting rumors out yet, but Max better be totally kick-ass. Hardwicke will also direct The Maze Runner, tentatively set for release in 2013.

Thirteen Reasons Why (2013)

If you haven’t heard already, Selena Gomez will be playing Hannah Baker, the high schooler who sent out somewhat of a suicide note via cassette tapes to the thirteen people she feels are responsible for driving her to suicide. As soon as I hear who is playing main character Clay Jensen, ya’ll will be the first to know.

The Great Gastby (2012)

I know, I know. It’s 10th grade required reading and it’s one of those classics with complex language that no one wants to read. But it’s TIMELESS, people! There is already a classic movie version of this novel from the 70’s, but I have to admit I’m rather excited for this one. Leonardo DiCaprio will play Jay Gatsby, the novel’s title character. It is being directed by Baz Luhrman who was the genius behind 1996’s Romeo + Juliet (which also starred DiCaprio, and was also amazing). Pair that with a well rounded cast of Tobey Maguire, Isla Fisher, and Carey Mulligan, and this movie should be the bomb diggity. And look at it this way… even if you’re not as excited about it as I am, now you won’t even have to read it for English class!

The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012)

I have total faith in this movie. The book was written by Stephen Chbosky, the screenplay was written by Stephen Chbosky, and the movie is being directed by (any guesses?) Stephen Chbosky. At least, if nothing else, the movie will be true to the novel with no ridiculous artistic interpretations from some nutty director. This one will star Logan Lerman (aka Percy Jackson), Emma Watson, Ezra Miller, Nina Dobrev, and Paul Rudd. How can THAT be a bad thing?!

Incarceron (2013)

Taylor Lautner will take a backseat to vampires no longer! He’s taking the lead in this adaptation of Catherine Fisher’s novel, costarring with Hollywood newbie Maria Juan Garcias. Lautner will play Finn, a prisoner of Incarceron and Garcias will play Claudia, the warden’s daughter.

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m excited. Even if the movies suck, I can still have fun mocking them…

Forget 13… just give me ONE good reason why

I  just learned that Thirteen Reasons Why (my favorite YA book of ALL TIME) is slated for a turn on the big screen. However, my jubilation quickly turned to despair (along with a few “WTF?!”‘s thrown in for good measure) when I learned that SELENAFREAKINGGOMEZ will be playing Hannah Baker.

I think my soul just threw up a little.

Pardon me while I go weep for Hannah’s character. Again.

HOWEVER! Do go check out the 13RW Project and read about how Jay Asher’s book is changing (and saving!) teens’ lives.
