Lauren Oliver’s book officially headed to the big screen. I’m simply delirious!

UPDATE! (1/23/13) Check out our post with updated information about the Delirium adaptation!

See what I did there?

In case you didn’t know, Lauren Oliver’s Delirium is Hollywood bound. How do I know? Because Lauren has already read the first draft of the script! The script is certainly in the early stages, but, despite some changes, it sounds like the movie will stay pretty true to the book. And who would know that better than Ms. Oliver herself! Read her blog post and see how feels about seeing her highly acclaimed book become a movie.

If you’re unfamiliar with the story, here’s a summary from Goodreads:

“Before scientists found the cure, people thought love was a good thing. They didn’t understand that once love — the deliria — blooms in your blood, there is no escaping its hold. Things are different now. Scientists are able to eradicate love, and the government demands that all citizens receive the cure upon turning eighteen. Lena Holoway has always looked forward to the day when she’ll be cured. A life without love is a life without pain: safe, measured, predictable, and happy.

But with ninety-five days left until her treatment, Lena does the unthinkable: She falls in love.”

Pandemonium, book 2 in the Delirium series, was just released in February. Book 3 will be titled Requiem and is slated for a release date of February 2013.

Since scripts for Delirium are only being drafted, we’ve got a loooooong way to go before we can start to speculate about who will be cast in this one. But just out of curiosity… who do YOU see as playing Lena, her BFF Hana, or the forbidden Alex?

BONUS: Learn a little more about Lauren Oliver, Delirium, and her inspiration for the book from this Amazon.com Author Interview. She’s very cool in an “OMG I want you to be my BFF, let’s do lunch!” type way. I saw her speak at a conference last year and she’s hilariously funny and down to earth, which made me adore her even more.

I’ve seen her name pop up in a few fan-casts, but I haven’t heard anything official yet. I suppose I could see her as Lena, though! I refuse to make any snap judgements until I’ve seen her in the Mortal Instruments haha
