Second Look: Pittacus Lore’s THE POWER OF SIX (HC, 2011)

Title: The Power of Six
Series: Lorien Legacies #2
Age: Young Adult (Grades 7+)
Genre: Modern Fantasy, Aliens Among Us

What It’s About
Picking up where I AM NUMBER FOUR left off, John (Four), Six and Sam are on the run.  John pines after Sarah while fighting his growing attraction to Six.   Readers are also introduced to Seven, through alternating chapters with her POV from Santa Teresa, Spain.  There’s a whole lot of action, especially towards the end of the book.  By the end of PO6, readers meet Numbers Nine and Ten (Yes there’s a Ten!)

Reader’s Thoughts
I don’t know why I waited so long to pick this up.  I did the same thing with IAN4.  I go kicking and screaming until I read the first few pages and then I’m totally engrossed in the story and itching to pick it up and read more.  TPO6 is no different if you liked IAN4.  It has the same fluid storytelling and fast-paced action.  There’s plenty of love angst for the girls who like romance without going over the top for boys who don’t.

There’s a big twist that I didn’t see coming – but should have expected – dealing with John/Six/Sam’s storyline.  I’m hoping they explore it more in THE RISE OF NINE (August ’12).  I won’t give it away in case you haven’t read it yet.

My recommendation?  If you’re like me and read IAN4 but haven’t read TPO6 yet – put everything else down and go read it.  If you’re still waiting to read IAN4 or just saw the movie, go get the book.  You won’t regret it.  This is a series that I keep waiting for the next book to come out.

Movie News?
Nothing yet.  I assume they’ll try to do the sequel to IAN4, but maybe not.  Though no word is out on a script or anything, so maybe we won’t see a sequel in film.  For that, I am sad because I would like to see how they personify Nine.  Also–You can’t go wrong with more Pettyfer, can you?
