Second Look: The Future of Us by Jay Asher and Carolyn Mackler (HC, 2011)

Since K posted a thorough summary of the book and her own opinion, I’m not going to bother with redoing all of that.  Instead, I’m going to squeal like a fan girl who just met Justin Bieber, dance around in a circle and praise this book to you.

*Commences in the above.*

OK, I’m done.

This was excellent.  I read the entire thing (well, minus 50 pages) yesterday when I got home from school.  I couldn’t put it down.  The writing is flawless.  The emotions are real and understandable.  It’s just that good.

Emma’s emotional roller coaster is real.  She’s afraid of what her future shows (via Facebook) and tries to do anything she can to change it.  It’s only until she has a realization about her present that she’s able to actually understand what needs to change.  Josh is…well, just funny.  Asher throws in some great one liners and the teenage male perspective is great.

Mackler and Asher work well together to create this novel of two best friends and their reactions to what their future holds.

My recommendation? Go out and read this.  Right now.

Oh.  And Happy Thanksgiving!
