Casting Divergent, take two: Casting Four (aka: A Lineup of Hotties)

UPDATE (3/8/13): Check out AtLP’s updated post with YOUR suggestions and new additions to the “lineup” from Young Adult Magazine!

Ahh, Four. My fictional boyfriend. Remember, I called dibs on him already.

Let’s sum up what we’re looking for… Four needs to smolder on the screen. We need a smokin’ hot hardass with a bit of a tender, sensitive side. For example, an actor like Jensen Ackles would be PERFECT for such a role. He’s a phenomenal actor and I love him like butter on bread, but, as much as I love him, unfortunately he’s a bit too old to play this character.

And for those of you who are wondering… yes, I spent the past week looking at pictures of mostly shirtless hot guys. It’s a tough job, but someone’s gotta do it.

Some casting thoughts for this role include:

Steven R. McQueen
If he doesn’t make you swoon, you are not a woman. Just sayin. Known for the role of Elena’s little bro in Vampire Diaries, McQueen has grown into quite a fine looking young man the last few seasons. We’ve seen him be soft and sensitive with his big sis and the girls he’s diggin’, but we’ve also seen him kick some vampire ass, too. Of the actors here, he’s probably my favorite choice for Four. My little-girl-crush on him has absolutely nothing to do with it, of course…

Henry Cavill
Though he may be a slightly to old for the part of Four (but only in the same way that 25-year-old Robert Pattinson is/was too old to play an immortal high schooler), his role in The Tudors just oozes sexuality, and going to war for Zeus in Immortals certainly brings out the tough guy in him. He gets a vote from me!

Nick Hoult
I read on another fan’s blog (so help me if I can remember which one) that Hoult would be fitting for the role. I will not lie… I had no idea who this kid was and had to IMDB his whole history to find out if he was in anything I’d actually seen. Turns out he was the little kid in About A Boy! And he’s got quite an impressive resume. On a strictly physical level, he personally doesn’t do it for me. That’s not to say he’s not a good actor, and I also don’t think he’s unattractive, but he just doesn’t scream “I’M SO SEXY THAT MY MERE PRESENCE WILL MAKE YOUR PANTIES CATCH FIRE” (like Four does). But maybe that’s just me.

Aaron Johnson
Mr. Kick-Ass himself.  He co-starred with Chloe Grace Moretz (one of my choices for Tris in Part I of my casting experiment), so we already know they have some (non-romantic) on screen chemistry with each other. Also, the fact that he was the title character in Kick-Ass also tell us that he, of course, has some kick-ass abilities. The young actor was also able to play a young John Lennon in 2009’s Nowhere Boy, (which I unfortunately have not seen), but I have a feeling that for a role like that they weren’t going to choose someone who couldn’t hack it.

Alex Pettyfer

I know, I know, I know… he’s a prime choice to play every lead in every movie based on a young adult book. But let’s face it: homeboy be smokin’ hot. Pettyfer is the right age and build to play the part, however we’d need to get him some hair dye. Even though it was never mentioned in Divergent, Four’s hair is dark brown (as per a Q&A with Roth). But maybe I’m still bitter that he is positively perfect to play Jace Wayland for the Mortal Instruments movie (am I the only one that feels Cassandra Clare must’ve written that character with Pettyfer in mind?!) and they went with JCB instead.

If you haven’t already, check out Casting Divergent, Part I and check out the Tris picks. Then lay it on me… yell, scream, agree, disagree, and defend your favorite boy!

Out of the guys on the list to play Four, I think that Henry Cavill is perfect. He is how I picture Four when I read the book. His personality in the book makes me think of him as older looking anyway.

  2. Rachel says:

ummhhhhhh alexander ludwig did u forget? me and my friends think hes perfect tall with some hairdye dark and handsome built for four tall and mysterious…… why not? please put him on this

I won’t lie or sugarcoat this… I didn’t even know Alexander Ludwig existed when I wrote this list. And now that I am well aware of his existence (and extreme sexiness), I would most definitely put in a bid for him for the role of Four. However, I cannot guarantee I would not fling myself in his general direction on the movie screen if that were the case.

  3. Loni says:

WhT about max irons from the host and red riding hood w/ Amanda seyfreid? He has dark hair and is ridiculously hot. And a great actor!!!!

  4. Kayla says:

Zane Holtz from Make It or Break It would be perfect for Four/Tobias!!! Plus that show finished not too long ago so it would seem he has an open calendar! He’s who I saw while reading the whole time!!! And I like the girl from The Lovely Bones for Tris! She’s innocent looking but has that edge to her like shed be up for anything esp a role like Tris!!!

  5. Beth says:

I would happily agree to any of these choices…provided they can portrey Four to be deadly and sweet at the same time. Not the third one down (Nick Hoult) he looks weird!

  6. Kjn says:

I think my favorite on the list is Steven r McQueen to me he just fits the best but I would also add drew Roy and Max irons as major contenders for me but whoever they pick I’m sure it will be the best choice

  7. Zacharia says:

i think you should use adam gregory , the actor not the singer
he is so flipping hot he used to be on 90210 and i think he is 22 or something
